GT Radial Sport Active 2 – this reasonably priced UHP tyre just got an upgrade

Prices shown is for 19th October 2023.

GT Radial has upgraded their Sport Active 2 range – and what was already a popular and reasonably priced UHP range has become even more appealing.

GT Radial has been our star buy company for a number of years now, because they offer a great all-round range at a price point our customers like.

The GT Radial brand is part of Singapore-based Giti tyres, the tenth largest manufacturer in the world, and which can boast a 60-year pedigree.

GT Radials are trusted as OEM tyres by automotive giants such as Citroen, Peugeot and Dacia… so they must be doing something right!

The SportActive 2 gets an upgrade

According to Tyre Trade News:

…the tyre features a brand new ULRR compound that delivers up to 15% lower rolling resistance compared to the standard UHP product.

A revised design of the tyre’s construction has brought a 4% reduction in weight while still delivering precision control with superb wet and dry grip, long lasting mileage and a confident, fun driving experience.

That reduction of rolling resistance should make a small but noticeable improvement to fuel economy or battery range. Michelin estimates that a 30% reduction in rolling resistance equates to 2 -5%. Every bit helps!

How does the SportActive 2 compare with competitors?

In Summer 2023, Autobild carried out a comprehensive test of twenty UHP tyres, along with a reference budget tyre for comparison.

Against some stiff competition from all the other big names, the SportActive held up very well, placing 4th out of 20 overall. According to Tyre Reviews, the SportActive was praised for:

Safe wet and dry handling, very good aquaplaning qualities, good value for money

The SportActive 2 is good value for money

We can vouch for the value for money  – at the time of writing, the Sport Active 2 used in the test is available on our site for about £40 less than the 3rd place finisher!

If you’re after a performance tyre without breaking the bank, the SportActive 2 is certainly worth considering.
